FAQs

Who/what is Heavy Metal Tribune?

Heavy Metal Tribune was formed in 2nd February 2010 by 5 like-minded individuals: Clarence, Cynthia, Hong Rui, JJ and Ling.

What do you guys do?

We bring to you updates from Asian metal bands (though you currently see us focussing on Singaporean bands since we are based in Singapore). In addition, we are an e-zine, bringing you reviews on releases and gigs and also interviews with various bands.

We are also an online community of metal heads and curious people, and therefore we also provide publicity for Singapore metal related events by interviewing and featuring people in the industry and musicians involved in the events. Want to advertise by placing a banner on our website? Email us at  boss@heavymetaltribune.com  and we can work something out!

Why do you bother?

Well. Somebody's gotta do this right? I know everyone's been saying how much restrictions we have in this shit hole or what nots, hey Singapore's not bad, you know.

When something is done, we get people making noises how dissatisfied they are or how untrue something is, but when nothing is done, we get the same complaints.

It is definitely not easy serving the most angsty clan of people, but we do gradually get more kind words from people time to time and we should focus and be happy with that.

Since we enjoy doing this most of the time, and success is the best revenge, NOTHING will bring us down.

What? Why are there metalcore bands on the website? Metalcore is not metal! Fucking posers.

Shut up. These bands probably have more experience (and are better) than you. So just shut up and read what they have to say.

And staying home and being on the net 24/7 to find obscure bands is soooooo not poser, and not to mention, interesting and exciting compared to talking to real people. /sarcasm

Can I use your article on my website/personal project/whatever?

Sure, go ahead. BUT be sure to link the article back to us, put our logo if you can. Read the Creative Commons to our articles here if you are not sure what you can and cannot do with our articles. But if you are too lazy here's the summary:

You are free copy, distribute and perform the work under the following conditions:

1. ATTRIBUTION: You must give the original author credit.
2. NON-COMMERCIAL: You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
3. NO DERIVATIVE WORKS: You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.

With the understanding that:

Waiver — Any of the above conditions can be waived if you get permission from the copyright holder.

Other Rights — In no way are any of the following rights affected by the license:

•Your fair dealing or fair use rights;
•The author's moral rights;
•Rights other persons may have either in the work itself or in how the work is used, such as publicity or privacy rights.
Notice — For any reuse or distribution, you must make clear to others the licence terms of this work.

What does "conditions can be waived" mean?

CC licenses anticipate that a licensor may want to waive compliance with a specific condition, such as attribution.

What does "Fair use" mean?

All jurisdictions allow some limited uses of copyrighted material without permission. CC licenses do not affect the rights of users under those copyright limitations and exceptions, such as fair use and fair dealing where applicable.

What are "Moral Rights"?

In addition to the right of licensors to request removal of their name from the work when used in a derivative or collective they don't like, copyright laws in most jurisdictions around the world (with the notable exception of the US except in very limited circumstances) grant creators "moral rights" which may provide some redress if a derivative work represents a "derogatory treatment" of the licensor's work.

What are "Publicity Rights"?

Publicity rights allow individuals to control how their voice, image or likeness is used for commercial purposes in public. If a CC-licensed work includes the voice or image of anyone other than the licensor, a user of the work may need to get permission from those individuals before using the work for commercial purposes.

To keep it simple: when in doubt, ASK!

How can we get you to review our release/interview us?

Get in contact with us! Email us at  boss@heavymetaltribune.com  or PM us on Facebook or MySpace! We check our mails frequently and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

If you prefer snail mailing, also email us for the address! We're afraid if you'd stalk and impale us.

Where are the ratings for your album reviews? They used to be there!

While we used to believe that numbers tell a lot, we eventually realised that what really counts are the words that are on the review. Two albums that score 6.5 do not mean that they are equally good/bad, but could be vastly different. So we have decided to do away with the numeric scores and let the review or preview track (if it is available) to speak for the album.

How do I give feedback about your articles?

Email us at boss@heavymetaltribune.com, use the feedback form provided on the website or post your comments on the article that you want to feedback on.

Please note that non-constructive feedback (e.g. this interview sucks!!! this band sucks!!! this album sucks!!!) will NOT be entertained.

I want to subscribe to your weekly updates, how do I do so?

You can email us or fill in the subscription form with your email address!

Stop being posers. Metal should stay undergound.

Fuck you. If you don't like what you see, press alt-f4 or [x]
