HMT Gluttons Club: Enjoy Thai Food

Metal Heads in Singapore might be always heading to Far East Plaza because of a very humble and cosy shop that sells all their metal lifestyle supplies like CDs, T-Shirts, etc. That place is none other than inokii.

However, one shit problem we all face is that food in Far East gets pretty boring, bad, and expensive over time.
Fucking 'zi char' houses at the top are always fucking smelly, we really hate our shirts smelling like Hor Fun.
Fret not.
Heavy Metal Tribune Gluttons Club introduces
ENJOY THAI FOOD

If you're familiar with the place, the same shop space used to be a snow-ice dessert hut ran by a few young chicks. Now it's ran by older folks but great food. It is also next to the toilet on the basement (technically first floor), near Graffiti Cafe.
The picture above is their almost complete food menu, and you can see the price range yourself.

I will not say that their food is 100% authentic Thai, but is definitely more authentic than your average Thai Express rip-offs, and tons cheaper. What I really like is that they don't cook their stuff in large batches, and each plate is cooked when we order them. Hence, it is hot, fresh, and feels extremely home-cooked. Not sure if they use MSG but it doesn't taste like they've used MSG. It is never too oily nor charred. But it is sadly not better than those in Purvis Street, which we will drop by and review another day. But this place is really value for money, rare thing in town.

One thing is that they love to cook spicy stuff as though the chili is free...so if you're bad with chili like me, remember to request for less chili...

We've tried most of the dishes, but some we didn't bother at all because we shouldn't be eating those in a Thai place...Here's our top few faves... (Best on the top!)

TOM YUM FRIED RICE

(Tom Yum Fried Rice drizzled with shitloads of their home made chili mix.)

As you can see, I've placed 3 different shots of the same dish we had on 3 different days...
Ingredients varies, sometimes it's a tad too moist, sometimes it is super spicy, sometimes it's bearable.
But what we love about this is the smell of tom yum. Most 'tom yum' dishes taste like it's from some powder mix, or it tastes nothing like tom yum...this...you smell it and you're gonna sneeze.
(BTW, this is not on the menu...so you need to request.)

Next up,

BASIL CHICKEN RICE

Here's me trying to pick out the little devils.

I honestly chose this mainly because I love basil, AND there is onion egg omelette! OMG.
Well technically our finance minister JJ didn't like this because of the basil leaves...Then again he doesn't like the fried rice cos of the basil too. Sometimes there's a fragrant taste of basil leaves, like pesto sauce, but sometimes it's non-existent. But this is an extremely spicy dish, and they added the chili padi / thai chili like there's no tomorrow, so remember to tell them to reduce it, but not totally without it. It's really exciting with the chili. It's like a mosh-pit on your tongue.

and then the other worth mentioning dishes are...
Thai Tom Yum with Vermicelli
(usually with rice but he changed it)

Thai Laksa
(Same green curry sauce according to Clarence)

Pineapple Fried Rice
(BTW, this is not on the menu...so you need to request.)

and their Thai Green Curry which I think some idiot deleted off my phone accidentally.
I will take another shoot and update here...
I also noticed that the Mango Salad is pretty popular, but because I hate mangoes, the rest are considerate about it...hahaha...

Remember to drink their
super sour Calamansi (Lime Juice) and Bandung!!!

The Pineapple Rice and Tom Yum Fried Rice is not on the main menu...

say hello to us if you bump into us!

In conclusion, Enjoy Thai Food is technically not that fantastic enough for me to put it up on the Gluttons Hall of Fame, but for the price you pay, it's pretty decent. I mean, HMT can't be always putting up food blog posts on restaurant food, Metal heads NEED to save money to buy CDs and Vinyls...right???
Although the quality of the dishes are entirely varied like your mothers' mood swings, it tastes really good and homely like your moody moms' too. It'll be great if it is constant throughout. But now you know where else you can eat other than those smelly zi char, cos this place doesn't reek of oil.And they don't bug you to pay up nor pressure you to GTFO when you're done... :)
